From Liberec to Budapest: The Story of Team MediBuddy at Innovation Days 2024
The winners of Innovation Days 2024 from the Technical University of Liberec have demonstrated how a single idea can turn into international success. Their project, MediBuddy - an automatic medication dispenser for patients with Alzheimer's disease - not only won at the local level but also fought its way to the grand European final at the Winners' Event in Budapest.
Competing against 24 teams from across Europe, they secured an impressive 6th place. The team, consisting of Eliška Holubová, Filip Charouzd, Jana Hlaváčová, Petra Bachtlíková, and Vojtěch Šíp, transformed from economists into true innovators.

What did Innovation Days as a whole give you, not just professionally, but personally?
"Innovation Days brought us not only new professional knowledge but also many personal experiences. We met inspiring people from all over Europe, made new friendships, and had the chance to visit beautiful Budapest during the finals. This experience showed us how to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical solutions for real-world problems."
What was your biggest "aha moment" during Innovation Days, and what surprised you the most?
"Our biggest 'aha moment' came when we realized that our project could actually be feasible. The team of mentors provided us with invaluable feedback and confirmed that our idea has great potential. Winning was an even bigger surprise and a massive boost of motivation, proving to us that we are on the right track and that our project truly makes sense."
What specific skills or knowledge did you acquire thanks to Innovation Days?
"Thanks to Innovation Days, we primarily mastered the ability to work effectively as a team. We learned how to identify the strengths of individual members and divide roles so that each of us could contribute the best of what we have to offer. This experience taught us team harmony and efficient problem-solving. At the same time, we gained knowledge on where and how to find the critical information needed to execute the steps of our project, and we also learned how to transform a thought into a concrete idea with real impact."

What do other students say about i-Days?
„Innovation Days are a fantastic opportunity for students who want to innovate . Their main advantage is the chance to work in a multidisciplinary team on a specific task, utilizing newly acquired skills in design thinking, business modeling, and presentation techniques-skills I still use today. Thanks to Innovation Days, I gained the foundation for my bachelor's thesis on developing an electronic system for monitoring vaccinated children. Winning took us to Paris, where we could finalize our idea and compete against teams from prestigious institutions like the University of Copenhagen or Oxford University, which was just the icing on the cake."

"Winning the Innovation Days competition at the DEX-IC Hub was the beginning of my amazing journey with EIT Health. Now, I am a board member of EIT Health Alumni, and I look forward to organizing similar events with the hub myself."
